last night was Hollywood's biggest night of the year. everyone looked stunning, Chris Rock killed it as a host, and attention was called to the big (white) elephant in the room. beyond that, Charlize Theron made a point to call attention to the above average burgers that were being served during her backstage pre-show interview, which got me thinking about all of the amazing food that these celebs must chow down on post-show. I'm sure most of the celebs, especially the ladies, avoid heavy meals day of, so once the pressure of looking beyond amazing is off, they're free to celebrate and enjoy quite the spread. Vogue did an overview of the Wolfgang Puck-hosted feast that greets hungry award winners after the show, and here's a taste, below:

rosé me, please

I feel that rosé has gotten a bad rap from unaware wine drinkers. No, it's not just pink wine, and no! it's not just white zinfandel. A good rosé from Provence is the perfect summer wine, and should be dry, crisp, with a hint of fruit, not overwhelming or gauche. Now, I buy 99% of my wine from Trader Joe's, but they have an excellent selection of $8+ bottles that I reach for on special occasions, or really, just on a Friday night when I want to wind down and treat myself a bit.

I've attended my fair share of wine downs, but still have a lot to learn about the red, white, pink, and sparkling stuff out there. I generally pick my bottles based on price point and alcohol percentage, but I've been making a point to turn the bottle around and look for words that I know I love: smooth, vanilla, citrus, etc. and trying to match bottles with specific food pairings. Hey, I'm trying!

Today was a doozy of a day. I received news about a new job opportunity that has me breathing a lot easier right now than I was last night, but I  am also more stressed out about other situations than I've been in weeks. Conveniently, I turn to one thing when I both want to celebrate and eat my feelings: pho from down the street. This warm bowl of Vietnamese soup was just what I needed on this surprisingly brisk summer night. Well, that and another episode of the new Bachelor In Paradise season. And wine. Plenty of wine.

when people think about the city of Pittsburgh, I feel like they generally conjure up images of dirty streets, grey skies, and a sea of Steelers fans wearing their black and yellow garb. at least, that's how I felt as a student at Carnegie Mellon. I love that city, and I really miss it, especially since I feel like I left it when it was really starting to hit its stride as an up-and-coming hub for trendy millenials and creative types.

maybe there are Yinzers who think that Anthropologie stores popping up and converting a beautiful old church into a brewery/restaurant/bar (Church Brew Works) aren't the best things, but this girl definitely does. I used to love walking over to Shady Side for my favorite customizable ice cream flavor fix (Oh Yeah!) in the summer, or to my favorite vegetarian restaurant/thrift shop/art gallery (Zenith) after hitting up H&M in the South Side.

alas, now I live in Burlington, but when I saw one of my college roommates post about 4121 MAIN, I wanted to hop on a plane and move back in to my old neighborhood, stat. the beautiful cafe/floral shop/art gallery/event space is stunning, simple, and just begging to be instagrammed. she also mentioned that it served one of the best cappuccinos that she's ever had. I'm sold, and will be sure to stop in the next time I'm in town.
