when I woke up this morning, I didn't think twice about how this Monday was going to be different than any other Monday. it was the first day of the Spring semester, and it's my 8th semester at college.(I don't even want to think about how many quarters and semesters I went through in elementary and high school)
I thought that I was totally used to this school, the people, and the harsh wind of Pittsburgh.
but as I rolled in to my 9 am class, I didn't see a single familiar face. I had to find a seat that was in a good place and I had to inform my professor that my middle name is not something I like to be called. I don't even know why it's on their roster to begin with.
there were new hallways and classrooms that I had never been in before (see picture). I had to get used to a different route to get all over campus and cross paths with a completely new set of people.
you know how you always seem to walk past the same person every Monday at 11:25? you may not even know them, but you know that she loves leather coats and is occasionally yelling at someone on the phone.
so all that sense of familiarity was gone. new professors, a new stack of books to haul in my bag.
it was weird, but I'm ready for it.
I really appreciate the blank slate that a new semester at college provides, and I'm going to savor this week of new things.
and today was freaking exhausting. no First Day of Classes party for me. I am passing OUT.
who do you run into every day?
and do you mind the first day back jitters?
