The Kills are tied in first place for my favorite band (with The Strokes, duh) but I've seen them live so they have an extra special place in my heart. my sister and I went to their show the very first year we attended Osheaga. they were both just so awesome, wearing their uniforms of dark cardigans, pants, and boots in the heat. the awkward Canadian guy next to us was holding a little girl's pink umbrella to ward off the threatening rain and just looked at our starry eyes and said, "Great show, eh?" Alison Mosshart is one of my personal style icons, bringing her Detroit-bred sense of grunge together with chic pops of animal print and raven black locks in a way that ensures that she gets a lot of free Chanel. and Jamie Hince is married to Kate Moss for Christ's sake. these two rock.
it makes a lot of sense then for me to be extra excited for the release of Dream and Drive, a photo book filled with 9 years of behind the scenes footage of The Kills taken by photographer Kenneth Cappello. they may not always look so hot, but as proper rock and rollers, they really could care less.
