my weekend was one of those that just flew by without me feeling like I got anything done. on Saturday morning I slept in, ate a leisurely breakfast, made labels for some of my travel photo albums (above), and scrambled to go babysit a really cool 8 year old (and his really loud cat, above) for a few hours. he retaught me how to play backgammon and I felt really bad when I won since he coached me through the first several rounds. that night a friend came over and we watched Casa de mi Padre, which has Will Ferrel speaking Spanish and only a handful of English lines in the whole film. it was pretty funny in a way that was only enhanced by the pina coladas that we whipped up with my immersion blender (I'm pretty resourceful). on Sunday I woke up feeling a little sluggish thanks to one too many tasty beverages, but I managed a quick gym session before meeting my sister and our really good family friend at the movies to see The Dark Knight Rises. fun fact: the movie was filmed in Pittsburgh last summer while I was there and I really enjoyed seeing my old stomping grounds as the backdrop for this movie. plus I kept my eyes peeled to see if I recognized any of my friends as extras. then we headed back to my mom's house to relax, play a pretty pathetic game of badminton, and spend way too long catching up over a meal of peanut noodles and spicy tuna patties. I love families who can get together and talk for hours, even if it's been years since we last saw each other. it's even better now that we're all pretty much adults and can all have one big & interesting conversation.
