I am often apprehensive about the fact that I live 15 miles or so away from each of my parents, and while I love being independent, I won't turn down a parent's offer to take me on a mini vacation. in August, my mom took me and my siblings on a long weekend trip in Bath, ME, and this past weekend, my dad countered with his own adventure down in Mystic, CT.
the weather perfect and our car fully stocked with Cheetos, a rather enjoyable weekend ensued. these family trips are actually a lot more pleasant now that we're all grownups who can kick back with a cold beer and actually enjoy each other's company instead of annoying each other just because that's what siblings do.
it turns out, the aquarium has a wonderful policy that lets you validate your ticket and return for two consecutive days free of charge. you better believe that we went back for day #2 of beluga whale- and penguin-watching before heading over to the slightly less fun Mystic Seaport. as much as I love a historical maritime village, I love cute sea creatures a little bit more.
